Antiochia ad Cragum

The site was discovered by American scholars 20 years ago while searching for sunken pirate ships. Large-scale excavations have been ongoing since. The site has an ancient Temple of Apollo (destroyed to its foundations, with marble fragments weighing several tons carefully numbered), an acropolis with a square, hammam, odeon, market rows, and several Byzantine churches. More than 60 nearly intact granite columns have been unearthed — nearly all have been returned to their places. Beneath the gravel lies a stunning mosaic, including in an ancient toilet. A couple more years of work remain before the official opening — for now you can visit for free.

How to get there
